I already know that I should remove the cover from the top LED when I want to scan stripes of film, thanks Never used any buttons on the scanner except for the on/off-switch, but this probably has nothing to do with my software problem.
Note that the Perfection 1200 will still be shown under Devices. The Perfection 2400 will now be shown in Device Manager. Ignore the 'Update Driver warning - choose 'Yes' to continue to install. Looks like I'll give another reinstall a try and make sure everything goes where it should. Click on 'Epson' in the Manufacturer box, and the scroll down through model until you find 'Epson Perfection 2400', and choose that, and press Next. I hope you are successful in getting things working again.

Note that during the install of the new drivers, a restart of the computer is required. I did have to use the provided slide holder in order to get it to work, and remove the cover over the light in the lid, but all worked (in Home mode - I didn't try others) as it should. Pressing any of the buttons on the V500 Photo Scanner now opens the appropriate part of the scanner app (PDF, print, or email). So I downloaded new driver, Scan Utility and Event Manager from Epson's website.
